Since 2017, under the guidance of Mr. Robert Koepke, our teams have actively participated in both TARC and NASA SLI competitions. Over the years, we have proudly earned numerous awards, showcasing our dedication and excellence.
Our mission extends beyond the rocket. We believe that the best way to predict the future is to build it. Project Helix is deeply embedded in the Southern California community, hosting interactive STEM workshops and "paper rocket" launch events for elementary and middle school students. By sharing our journey and our failures, we aim to demystify engineering and inspire the youth of Orange County to look up and dream big.
We are Project Helix, a select team of future engineers representing the AIAA Orange County Section. Our team is built with eighteen diverse members, and two mentors. Each year, we accept the challenge of the NASA Student Launch Initiative (SLI), an 8-month engineering odyssey that mirrors real-world aerospace defense cycles. We don’t just build models; we engineer reusable, high-power launch vehicles capable of carrying autonomous payloads to altitudes of up to 6,000 feet. Utilizing advanced manufacturing techniques to create the best well functioning rocket within the scope of our resources.
AIAA OC has several teams each year competing in the American Rocketry Challenge, the nation’s premier rocketry contest for middle and high school students students. Each team designs, builds, and test launches their rockets. Through hands-on experience, research, and teamwork, ARC promotes innovation and deepens our commitment to STEM,
Interested in competitive rocketry? We host annual summer camps in Orange County for students passionate about STEM and rocketry! During these camps, participants collaborate in teams to design and build their own model rockets, culminating in an exciting launch event. The camp also offers a pathway for students interested in joining our team after the program. For more information, please reach out to us via email.
